Who Can Apply for a Parent Visa (Subclass 103)?

To qualify for a Parent Visa (Subclass 103), applicants must generally meet the following requirements:

• Parental Relationship: You must be the parent of an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen who is settled in Australia. This relationship must be supported by official documents, such as birth certificates.

• Sponsorship: You need to have an eligible sponsor in Australia. In most cases, your sponsor will be your child (the Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen). If your child is under 18 years of age, an eligible relative or a community organization can act as your sponsor.

• Retiree Exception: If you are applying as a retiree, you are not required to have a sponsor.

• Meet the Balance of Family Test: To meet the Balance of Family Test, you must demonstrate that at least half of your children are living in Australia as Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens, or that more of your children live in Australia.   

Please note that if you are applying as a retiree then you don’t need to meet the Balance of Family Test.

• Assurance of Support: You and any family members included must have an assurer—someone who agrees to provide financial support if required. This ensures you will not need to rely on government welfare after arriving in Australia. If you are applying as a retiree, you are exempt from providing an Assurance of Support.

• Additional Eligibility Requirements for the Parent Visa (Subclass 103)

  To qualify for this visa, you must also meet the following conditions:

  • Health and Character Requirements: You and any dependent family members included in your application must meet Australia’s health and character standards.

  • No Prior Visa Cancellation or Refusal: You may be ineligible if you have previously had an Australian visa cancelled or refused.

  • No Outstanding Debts: You must not owe any money to the Australian Government, or you must have made arrangements to repay any outstanding debts.

  • Health Insurance (for Retirees): If you’re applying as a retiree, you must maintain adequate health insurance coverage until your visa is granted.

  • Previous Visa Restrictions: You must not hold, or have previously applied for, a Subclass 870 Sponsored Parent (Temporary) visa when lodging your Subclass 103 application.

• Who Can Sponsor a Parent for Visa Subclass 103?

  For the Parent Visa (Subclass 103), the sponsor is usually the child of the main applicant. However, the child must meet specific eligibility criteria to act as a sponsor:

  • Australian Status: The sponsor must be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen.

  • Residency Requirement: The sponsor must be settled in Australia—meaning they have been living in the country on a long-term basis and consider it their permanent home.

  • Minimum Age: The sponsor must be 18 years of age or older.

  If the child is under 18, an eligible relative or an approved community organization may be allowed to act as the sponsor instead.

• Sponsorship by a Relative or Eligible Person (When the Child is Under 18)

  If the child of the visa applicant is under 18 years old, a relative or eligible person can sponsor the Parent Visa (Subclass 103) on the child's behalf. The sponsor must meet the following general requirements:

  • Be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen

  • Be living in Australia with a settled status

  • Be 18 years of age or older

  In addition, the sponsor must fall into one of the following categories:

  • The co-habiting spouse or partner of the child

  • A relative or guardian of the child

  • A relative or guardian of the child’s co-habiting spouse or partner

  These provisions ensure that a responsible and eligible adult can support the visa application when the child is too young to act as a sponsor.

• Sponsorship by a Community Organization

  In cases where the child of the Parent Visa (Subclass 103) applicant is under 18, a community organization may act as the sponsor—provided the following conditions are met:

  • There is an established connection between the organization and the child of the visa applicant.

  • A senior representative of the organization agrees to act as the official sponsor.

  • The organization is legally established and recognized in Australia.

  • The organization has been actively operating in Australia for at least 12 months prior to the sponsorship application.

  • The organization can demonstrate the financial capacity to fulfill sponsorship obligations.

• Obligations of a Parent Visa (Subclass 103) Sponsor

  Sponsoring a Parent Visa (Subclass 103) applicant carries important responsibilities. The sponsor must:

  • Provide an Assurance of Support (AoS):
    This is a formal commitment to financially support the visa holder(s), ensuring they do not rely on government welfare. The sponsor is usually responsible for providing accommodation and financial assistance for a minimum of two years from the date the visa is granted.
    The sponsor must also meet an income test, with the required income threshold varying based on individual circumstances.

  • Keep Authorities Informed:
    The sponsor is required to notify the Department of Home Affairs of any significant changes in their circumstances. This includes updates such as changes in income, address, or any other relevant information that could affect their ability to fulfil sponsorship obligations.

• Benefits of the Parent Visa (Subclass 103)

  • Grants permanent residency, allowing parents to live, work, and study in Australia indefinitely.

  • Provides access to Medicare and certain social services.

  • Allows unrestricted work and domestic tuition fees for study.

  • Enables travel in and out of Australia.

اسپانسر متقاضی ویزای والدین مسئولیت‌های مهمی را به همراه دارد. اسپانسر موظف است

:ارائه تعهد مالی
این تعهد رسمی شامل حمایت مالی از دارنده ویزا است تا از نیاز به کمک‌های دولتی جلوگیری شود. اسپانسر معمولاً موظف است برای حداقل دو سال پس از صدور ویزا، محل اسکان و کمک مالی فراهم کند

اسپانسر موظف است هرگونه تغییر مهم در شرایط خود را  اطلاع دهد. این شامل تغییراتی مانند آدرس، درآمد یا سایر اطلاعاتی است که ممکن است بر توانایی او در انجام تعهدات تأثیر بگذارد
