The Contributory Parent Visa (Subclass 143) allows parents to reunite with their children who are living permanently in Australia. If your child is an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen, this visa offers you the opportunity to live in Australia permanently.

Who Can Apply for a Contributory Parent Visa (Subclass 143)?

To be eligible for this visa, you generally must meet the following requirements:

1. Parental Relationship

You must be the parent of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen who is settled in Australia. This relationship must be supported with documents such as birth certificates.

2. Sponsorship

You must have an eligible sponsor—typically your child, who must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen.
If your child is under 18, a close eligible relative or a community organisation may act as your sponsor.

Note: If you are applying as a retiree, you do not need a sponsor.

3. Balance of Family Test

You must meet the Balance of Family Test, which requires that:

  • At least half of your children live permanently in Australia as citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens, or

  • More of your children live in Australia than in any other single country.

Note: The Balance of Family Test is not required if you are applying as a retiree or if you already hold a Subclass 173 visa.

4. Assurance of Support

You and any family members included in your application must have an assurer—a person or organisation who agrees to provide financial support if needed, to ensure you do not rely on government assistance.

Note: If you are applying as a retiree, you are not required to provide an Assurance of Support.

5. Health and Character Requirements

All applicants, including any dependent family members, must meet health and character requirements as part of the visa assessment process.

6. No Prior Visa Cancellation or Refusal

You may not be eligible if you have had a previous Australian visa cancelled or refused, unless you can demonstrate compelling reasons.

7. No Outstanding Debts

You must have no outstanding debts to the Australian government or must have arranged to repay any debts in full.

8. Health Insurance (for Retirees)

If applying as a retiree, you must hold adequate health insurance for the duration of your stay in Australia until the visa is granted.

9. Previous Visa Restrictions

You must not have applied for or held a Temporary Sponsored Parent Visa (Subclass 870) at the time of applying for the Subclass 143 visa.

تعداد فرزندانی که در استرالیا زندگی می‌کنند، از هر کشور دیگری بیشتر باشد

توجه: بازنشستگان و دارندگان ویزای ۱۷۳ از این شرط معاف هستند

(Assurance of Support) تضمین حمایت مالی

شما و همراهانتان باید فرد یا سازمانی را به عنوان ضامن مالی معرفی کنید که در صورت نیاز، هزینه‌های زندگی شما را تأمین کند

توجه: بازنشستگان نیاز به ارائه تضمین مالی ندارند

 شرایط سلامت و شخصیت

همه متقاضیان باید از نظر سلامت جسمی و شخصیت (نداشتن سوء‌پیشینه و...) مورد تأیید دولت استرالیا قرار بگیرند

نداشتن سابقه رد یا لغو ویزا

اگر ویزای شما در گذشته لغو یا رد شده باشد، ممکن است واجد شرایط این ویزا نباشید، مگر اینکه دلایل قانع‌ کننده‌ای ارائه کنید

 نداشتن بدهی به دولت استرالیا

در زمان درخواست نباید هیچ بدهی پرداخت‌ نشده‌ای به دولت استرالیا داشته باشید. در صورت وجود بدهی، باید توافق برای بازپرداخت انجام شده باشد

بیمه درمانی (ویژه بازنشستگان)

اگر به عنوان بازنشسته اقدام می‌کنید، باید تا زمان دریافت ویزا، بیمه درمانی مناسبی برای اقامت در استرالیا داشته باشید

عدم اقدام برای ویزای ۸۷۰

Who Can Sponsor a Contributory Parent Visa (Subclass 143)?

 

1. The Child (Main Sponsor)

The sponsor is usually the child of the visa applicant and must:

  • Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen

  • Be settled in Australia

  • Be at least 18 years old

2. A Relative or Guardian (if the Child is Under 18)

If the child is under 18, a sponsor can be:

  • The child’s cohabiting spouse

  • A relative or guardian of the child or of the child’s spouse
    The sponsor must also:

  • Hold eligible residency or citizenship

  • Be settled in Australia

  • Be 18 years or older

3. A Community Organisation

An Australian community organisation can sponsor the applicant if:

  • It has a clear connection to the applicant’s child

  • A senior representative agrees to act as sponsor

  • It is legally established in Australia and has been active for at least 12 months

  • It has the financial capacity to support the sponsorship

What Are the Responsibilities of a Contributory Parent Visa (Subclass 143) Sponsor?

Sponsoring a Contributory Parent Visa (Subclass 143) applicant comes with specific obligations. As a sponsor, you must:

1. Provide an Assurance of Support (AoS)

You are required to provide financial support to the visa holder(s) for up to two years after the visa is granted. This includes assistance with living expenses and, if necessary, accommodation.
To be eligible to provide an AoS, you must meet certain income requirements, which vary depending on your personal circumstances.

2. Notify the Department of Home Affairs of Any Changes

As a sponsor, you must keep the Department informed of any significant changes in your circumstances. This includes:

  • Changes in income

  • Change of residential address

  • Any other relevant updates that may affect your sponsorship

How to Apply for a Visa 143

Step 1: Submit Your Application

  • Apply on paper, from inside or outside Australia.

  • Provide identity documents (passport, ID).

  • Sponsor must submit a sponsorship application (not needed if applying as a retiree).

  • Submit balance of family documents to prove family residency (not needed for retirees).

  • Provide Assurance of Support when requested (not needed for retirees).

  • Submit police certificates from countries where you stayed 12+ months.

  • Include documents for any dependents (ID, relationship proof, character checks, dependency evidence).

  • If dependents are under 18, submit parental responsibility documents.

  • Provide partner’s identity, relationship, and character documents if applicable.

  • Include four recent photos of all applicants.

  • The application is processed only after paying the first visa fee installment.

Step 2: Wait for Processing

  • You will be asked to complete health exams and biometrics when required.

  • You can add family members before the visa decision.

  • Pay the second visa fee installment upon invoice from the Department of Home Affairs.
